Art of Ramen

Made of tangy Chinese wheat noodles, a flavourful broth and slices of tender meat, we all know what makes a bowl of ramen complete, but how much do you know about the magic that goes into creating this popular Japanese dish?

Shot and edited by Tristeps Studios very own Director of Photography, Terrence, this short production video, takes a deep dive into the art of ramen making with carefully scripted scenes that showcase the master technique behind every bowl of perfectly crafted ramen.

Aptly titled “Art of Ramen”, the one minute clip required the transformation of Studio Recreate professional kitchen studio into a dark and moody cooking space to capture the intensity of the chef’s passion that goes into executing a bowl of delicious ramen.

To replicate a midnight kitchen cooking scene, the full backout function accompanying the floor to ceiling glass windows was activated. Additionally, we also made use of the incredible Philips Hue RGB lighting system that immediately gave our studio kitchen a moody and lonely vibe with simply a few clicks on our studio ipad. Enjoy the duality of day and night at your fingertips with Studio Recreate fully app controllable lighting system.

Staying in line with the cool lighting direction of the concept of this shoot, we dug around in the studio’s expansive collection of plates and tableware for wooden and dark blue props that fitted in with the scenes muted tones. These included an intricately designed ramen bowl, saucers, Japanese chef rope and bandana and even a fortune cat!

A precise combination of composition, framing and music, the slow motion scenes of intense b-rolls of the chef’s preparation of the various ingredients were juxtaposed against the fast paced beat of the classic koto tone hybrid music to exhibit the amount of determination that goes into whipping up your favourite Japanese dish.
